Vietnam provinces strengthen water resource and environmental management
Provinces in Vietnam are intensifying efforts to manage water resources and environmental protection amid growing industrial demands and climate change pressures.
In Phu Tho, authorities are focusing on water security and the safety of dams and reservoirs to support socio-economic development. The province manages a vast network of 5,917 irrigation works and utilizes significant groundwater reserves to supplement surface water. Additionally, the province is prioritizing green growth by controlling waste discharge, with 82.4% of industrial zones and 56.3% of industrial clusters currently utilizing centralized wastewater treatment systems.
In Hai Phong, the expansion of industrial and economic hubs has increased water demand, leading to stricter management of resources. The region faces significant challenges from saltwater intrusion and pollution. Salinity levels in key river sections have reached notable peaks, reducing the time available for freshwater extraction in irrigation systems by an average of 40% and decreasing total stored water volumes by 60% compared to previous years.
