Vietnam provinces tighten sand mining regulations

Authorities in Gia Lai and Nghe An provinces are intensifying oversight of sand mining activities to ensure resource management and disaster preparedness.

In Gia Lai, sand mining operations in the eastern region are scheduled to pause from September 16 to December 31 to mitigate natural disaster risks. During the initial period of this pause, businesses must complete riverbed clearing and remove service roads. The Department of Industry and Trade has strictly prohibited using riverbed clearing as a pretext for illegal sand extraction. Companies are required to monitor siltation levels and map riverbeds to manage reserves effectively before resuming operations.

In Nghe An, provincial leadership has conducted field inspections along the Lam River to enforce compliance regarding mining capacity, output, and licensing. The inspections targeted various mines and inland waterway wharves to prevent resource loss. Reports indicate a complex landscape of active and suspended mines, with officials focusing on ensuring that all operations adhere to legal frameworks and authorized flow channels.
