Vietnam pushes forward crypto asset regulations and expands digital finance ecosystem
Vietnam is preparing a regulatory framework for a market in crypto assets. Officials at the "Crypto Assets and the Future of Digital Finance" conference highlighted the country's effort to attract international capital, develop risk‑management standards and protect investors. A draft legal structure recognises crypto assets as a class of property under the Civil Code and mandates that all trading be conducted through licensed domestic service providers, while still allowing holders to keep assets in personal wallets. The framework also emphasises anti‑money‑laundering measures to address Vietnam’s placement on the FATF grey list.
At the same time, Vietnam marked Digital Finance Day 2026, transitioning from a cash‑less payment focus to a broader digital‑finance vision. The event, attended by senior government officials and foreign delegations, showcased the growth of a digital‑finance ecosystem intended to provide inclusive access to financial services for citizens and businesses. The program aligns with national resolutions and the 2026‑2030 comprehensive finance strategy, aiming to support e‑commerce, tourism and innovation while reinforcing financial stability.
