Vietnam railway SE2 train stops to rescue passenger showing stroke symptoms

On the night of 26 July, Vietnam Railways' SE2 passenger train traveling from Biên Hòa toward Long Khánh halted after a 71‑year‑old passenger, Trần Văn Sỹ of Ninh Bình, exhibited signs of a possible stroke. Crew member Đinh Xuân Hiếu, in charge of carriage 11, reported the incident to train chief Nguyễn Trường Thọ, who confirmed the passenger was unconscious with a weak pulse.

The crew activated emergency procedures, provided on‑board first aid, and broadcast a call for any medically trained passengers. Simultaneously, the control centre granted permission for an unscheduled stop at Long Khánh station. By 21:50 the train arrived, and the patient and his two relatives were handed over to station staff and emergency medical services for transport to a nearby hospital. The station also arranged ticket refunds and luggage handling for the family. The timely response averted a critical outcome for the passenger.

The incident follows a previous successful medical assistance on a SE4 train earlier in the year, highlighting Vietnam Railways' protocol for handling health emergencies on its network.
