Vietnam Railways receives new generation D19E diesel locomotives

Vietnam Railways (VNR) has officially received its first batch of new-generation D19E diesel locomotives at Yen Vien station. This acquisition is part of a strategic investment project aimed at modernizing the national railway fleet through 2030.

The new locomotives are designed to enhance traction capacity, replace aging equipment, and meet the growing demand for passenger and freight transport on north-south and international routes. While maintaining the proven technical foundation of the D19E series—including the CAT3512B diesel engine and AC-DC electric transmission—the new generation features over 40 technical improvements.

Key upgrades include the replacement of the ZY8000 platform with the G300 computer control system, which offers digital displays, integrated warnings, and data logging for improved diagnostics and maintenance. Other significant enhancements involve the locomotive cabin structure for increased safety, redesigned control desks, and the transition from piston-type to screw-type air compressors.
