Vietnam ranks 27th in inaugural IMD World Competitiveness Ranking

Vietnam has ranked 27th out of 70 economies in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Ranking, marking its first appearance in the index. This placement puts the country within the top 30 most competitive economies surveyed and ranks it 9th in the Asia-Pacific region.

The IMD assessment is based on 341 criteria across four pillars: economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency, and infrastructure. The results are derived from two-thirds statistical data and one-third surveys of business executives.

Vietnam showed strong performance in international trade, the labor market, and employment. However, the report identified several areas for potential improvement to support sustainable development and value chain upgrades, including international investment, institutions, education, healthcare, and the environment.
