Vietnam reaches investment grade following R&I credit rating upgrade

The credit rating agency R&I has upgraded Vietnam's foreign currency issuer credit rating from BB+ to BBB-. This upgrade marks the first time Vietnam has entered the 'investment grade' category.

This milestone reflects R&I's assessment of Vietnam's growth prospects, fiscal space, and ongoing reform processes. The new rating is expected to improve Vietnam's economic standing and facilitate access to higher-quality international capital. By reducing barriers for both the state and individual enterprises, the upgrade may expand the investor base and lower the cost of mobilizing funds.

In the long term, improved access to long-term capital could support infrastructure development in sectors such as transportation, energy, and digital transformation. Such advancements may lead to reduced logistics costs and increased productivity, potentially benefiting the stock market through improved corporate profitability and foreign direct investment.
