Vietnam secures $221.2 million in UN cooperation programs

During the 81st UN General Assembly high-level week in New York, Vietnam received three Country Programme Documents (CPD) for the 2027–2031 period, totaling approximately $221.2 million in resources.

The funding is distributed among three major United Nations agencies: the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at roughly $115.5 million, UNICEF at $85 million, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) at $20.7 million. The UNDP program will focus on inclusive human development, economic and digital transformation, climate change response, and public governance. UNICEF will prioritize child protection and climate resilience, while UNFPA will address population issues, gender equality, and reproductive health.

In addition to these programs, several other agreements were finalized. This includes an amendment regarding the use of the UN Common House in Hanoi and an intent to establish a regional cybercrime prevention center in Asia-Pacific through the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). General Secretary and President Tô Lâm affirmed Vietnam's commitment to supporting UN agencies, including the continued provision of rent-free premises for their offices in the country.
