Vietnam Red Cross donates 100 billion dong to Cuba

The Vietnam Red Cross Society, in coordination with the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi, has donated 100 billion Vietnamese dong (approximately 3.83 million USD) to the people of Cuba. The contribution was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of revolutionary leader Fidel Castro Ruz.

Do Thi Thu Thao, President of the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee, stated that the funds were mobilized during the 2026 Humanitarian Month to help alleviate current difficulties facing the Cuban people. The donation is intended to honor the historical solidarity between the two nations, recalling Fidel Castro’s 1973 visit to Vietnam and his famous declaration of support for the country.

Cuban Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes expressed gratitude for the gesture, noting its importance during a period when Cuba faces significant economic and energy challenges. The event also served as a moment for Vietnamese citizens and former students who studied in Cuba to reflect on the deep-rooted friendship and mutual support shared by both nations over several decades.
