Vietnam refines draft Law on Adoption for National Assembly submission

The Vietnamese Government has reached a consensus on the draft Law on Adoption (amended), which was submitted by the Ministry of Justice. The Ministry of Justice is tasked with refining the draft and completing the legal dossier in accordance with regulations on the promulgation of legal documents.

The Minister of Justice, acting on behalf of the Government, will submit the draft to the National Assembly during the second session of the 16th National Assembly. The Ministry is also responsible for coordinating with National Assembly agencies to explain and incorporate feedback during the appraisal process.

The primary objectives of the amendment are to institutionalize state policies regarding child care, education, and protection. The reform aims to enhance decentralization, promote administrative reform, and implement digital transformation. Additionally, the law seeks to internalize international treaties to which Vietnam is a member, ensuring child rights are protected in line with international practices. The guiding principle of the draft is to prioritize the best interests of the child, ensuring they have opportunities to grow up in stable, safe, and sustainable family environments.
