Vietnam refines environmental laws to ensure gender equality

Vietnam is working to refine its environmental protection policies to ensure gender equality and address the disproportionate impact of climate change and industrialization on women. At a recent workshop, Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice President of the Vietnam Women's Union, emphasized that integrating gender into environmental law must go beyond mere regulation. It requires assessing how policies affect men and women differently to ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities.

Experts noted that while the 2020 Law on Environmental Protection established foundational principles for gender equality, there remains a disconnect between these principles and practical implementation. Current gaps include a lack of specific requirements for gender-impact assessments, insufficient conditions for female participation in environmental management, and a need for better criteria in resource allocation and result monitoring.
