Vietnam reforms science governance as it faces US IP investigation

Vietnamese officials are calling for a shift from administrative management to creative governance of basic research. The President and General Secretary have urged removal of institutional bottlenecks by June 2027 to enable long‑term investment in fields such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and biotechnology, emphasizing that strong basic science is essential for national strategic autonomy.

In response to a Section 301 investigation launched by the U.S. Trade Representative over Vietnam's intellectual‑property protection, the Vietnamese foreign ministry spokesperson stressed the country's consistent policy to strengthen IP enforcement, highlighted recent progress, and expressed willingness to continue dialogue with the United States, seeking an objective and fair assessment.
