Vietnam relocates historic Đặng Thùy Trâm village as war‑era site is cleared

A team visited the remote settlement once used as a field medical post by Dr. Đặng Thùy Trâm during the Vietnam War. The village, known locally as “5 không” for lacking roads, electricity, school, health post and phone service, lies in Đặng Thùy Trâm commune in the central highlands. Local guides Phạm Thị Mẫn and Phạm Thị Thanh Trúc explained that residents have agreed to move to a newly built resettlement area, and the old houses will be dismantled in the coming months. The relocation aims to end decades‑long habitation of the former revolutionary base and provide modern infrastructure for the community.

The effort reflects ongoing government initiatives to improve living conditions in remote mountainous regions while preserving the memory of Dr. Đặng Thùy Trâm’s wartime service.
