Vietnam reorganizes public education institutions in Hanoi and Can Tho

Various regions in Vietnam are undergoing significant restructuring of public educational institutions to streamline administration and improve governance efficiency.

In Hanoi, several wards have completed the reorganization of educational facilities. In Dong Da ward, the number of public schools was reduced from 12 to 6, including preschool, primary, and secondary levels. Local officials stated that the reorganization aims to consolidate resources, enhance management effectiveness, and build a modern educational system.

In Can Tho, the municipal government has implemented a plan to reorganize public preschools, general education schools, and vocational training centers. This restructuring will reduce the number of public educational institutions from 1,156 to 406. Consequently, the city faces a surplus of 750 principals and 330 vice-principals.

To manage the surplus leadership, Can Tho plans to allow affected officials to retain their current leadership allowances under specific government decrees. Other options for surplus staff include transitioning to commune-level education officials, becoming teachers if they meet professional standards, or moving into support roles such as accounting, clerical work, or library management. The city confirmed that the teaching staff will not be affected by these changes.
