Vietnam repatriates 10 fishermen rescued from Malaysia
The Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia has successfully repatriated 10 Vietnamese fishermen who were facing difficulties while working in Perak, Malaysia. Following a request for assistance from the Ca Mau provincial People's Committee on August 27, the Embassy coordinated with local Malaysian authorities to secure the group.
The fishermen, who arrived in Malaysia in February to work for a fishing vessel owner, reported that their passports were confiscated and they were deprived of basic necessities, including food and water. The Embassy provided transportation to Kuala Lumpur, ensured safe accommodation, assisted with legal documentation, and coordinated with local police and immigration authorities to facilitate their departure.
The group returned to Vietnam safely on September 12. In response to the incident, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning to workers regarding non-transparent job offers, specifically advising against “easy work, high pay” schemes. Officials urged citizens to verify recruitment agencies, contracts, and working conditions before traveling abroad.
