Vietnam reports rising dengue fever and infectious disease cases
Multiple regions in Vietnam are reporting significant increases in infectious diseases, particularly dengue fever.
In Dong Nai, health authorities report a high risk of widespread outbreaks, with the disease present in 100% of communes and wards. The province has recorded nearly 16,000 cases and 7 deaths since the beginning of the year. Medical experts warn that the presence of all four Dengue virus types (D1, D2, D3, and D4) increases the risk of severe illness and reinfection, especially during the rainy season.
Da Nang has seen a 2.4-fold increase in dengue cases compared to the same period last year, with over 4,200 cases recorded. Notably, 70% of positive samples were identified as the D2 virus type, which is associated with a higher risk of severe complications and mortality.
In Ho Chi Minh City, dengue fever remains prevalent with over 35,000 cumulative cases this year. Additionally, the city reported a 63.8% weekly increase in hand, foot, and mouth disease cases, totaling over 36,000 cases since the start of the year. Health officials are urging citizens to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and maintain strict hygiene practices to mitigate the spread.
