Vietnam retail sector sees growth as consumer spending and e-commerce expand

Vietnam's retail sector is experiencing a recovery in purchasing power. According to the General Statistics Office, retail revenue for the first eight months of the year reached approximately 3,947.6 trillion VND, a 12.8% increase compared to the same period last year.

While consumer financial situations are improving, spending habits are shifting toward value optimization. A survey by Vietnam Report indicates that 89.5% of consumers compare prices before purchasing, and 39.5% delay transactions to wait for promotions. This creates a challenge for retailers to convert increased sales into profit without eroding margins through excessive discounting.

Simultaneously, the rise of e-commerce is shifting logistics demand toward suburban and mountainous areas. As online shopping expands via platforms like TikTok Shop and Shopee, logistics providers are finding new opportunities in satellite regions. In areas like Don Duong, Lam Dong province, local delivery hubs manage significant daily volumes, navigating geographic challenges to meet the growing demand for remote delivery services.
