Vietnam retirees describe life changes and financial strategies after leaving work

Two recent retirees in Vietnam recount how retirement prompted major shifts in their finances and daily life. One sold a large family home for a smaller apartment, redirected the proceeds into savings, stopped providing money to relatives, and set aside funds for emergencies, health care, and personal hobbies. The other highlights the emotional challenges of retirement, describing an initial “crisis” after her husband retired, and how she learned to focus on self‑care, join classes, travel, and prioritize health and well‑being.

Both emphasize that retirement is less about abandoning responsibilities and more about restructuring finances, securing personal independence, and finding new sources of fulfillment in later years.
