Vietnam rice exports reach 2.91 billion USD amid price recovery

Vietnam's rice exports for the first eight months of 2026 reached approximately 6.03 million tons, valued at nearly 2.91 billion USD. This represents a 5% decrease in volume and a 10.7% decrease in value compared to the same period in 2025. Despite these declines, export prices showed signs of recovery starting in July, with average prices reaching 511 USD per ton, a 5.8% increase year-on-year.

Total annual export value for 2026 is projected to reach approximately 3.94 billion USD, a 4% decrease from 2025. The recovery in prices during the latter half of the year is expected to improve overall turnover.

On the international market, rice prices in other major exporting nations are also rising. India has seen its export prices hit a one-year high, with 5% broken rice trading at 366-371 USD per ton, driven by weather risks and El Niño concerns. Thailand has also seen prices for 5% broken rice rise to approximately 465 USD per ton, supported by demand from the Philippines. Meanwhile, Bangladesh is considering export restrictions on certain fragrant rice varieties to stabilize domestic supply.
