Vietnam Road Administration orders flood protection for transport infrastructure
The Vietnam Road Administration has issued an urgent directive to various agencies and units to implement proactive measures to protect transportation infrastructure against the risks of flooding, flash floods, and landslides during the 2026 rainy season.
Key instructions include coordinating with hydropower plant and dam operators to obtain timely information regarding flood discharge schedules. Authorities are encouraged to advocate for early or precautionary discharges before heavy rainfall occurs to mitigate impact.
Management units, including Road Management Areas I, II, III, and IV, along with the Vietnam Expressway Development Investment Corporation (VEC) and PPP project investors, must inspect vulnerable road sections and weak bridges. Specific focus is placed on older bridge structures that may be susceptible to erosion or foundation damage from rising water levels and debris.
Furthermore, agencies must prepare detailed traffic diversion plans in coordination with local authorities and traffic police to ensure safety in the event of flooding or structural damage to roadworks.
