Vietnam seeks $700 bn to fund net‑zero transition by 2050
Vietnam estimates it will need roughly $700 billion in financing to achieve its net‑zero emissions target by 2050. At the Green Finance Vietnam 2026 conference, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Huu Huan, vice‑chairman of the Vietnam International Finance Center in Ho Chi Minh City (VIFC‑HCMC), said the country must bridge the gap between large investment pledges and bankable projects. A World Bank climate‑development report projects $368 billion of additional investment required by 2040, with the private sector expected to supply about half of that sum. VIFC‑HCMC plans to establish a Green Capital Conversion Hub to prepare projects, structure financing, manage risk, and connect investors to sustainable assets. Banking institutions, such as Nam A Bank, note that most green capital currently flows through the banking system, underscoring the sector’s pivotal role in mobilising the needed funds.
