Vietnam seeks to bridge gap between research and commercialization
Vietnam is facing a significant disconnect in the linkage between the State, schools, and enterprises, hindering the commercialization of scientific research. In Dak Lak province, while hundreds of scientific topics are approved annually and thousands of academic papers are published, only 25-30% of research results are applied in practice or commercialized.
Experts note a “death valley” in the intermediate stage, where there is a lack of resources for creating prototypes, proof-of-concept (PoC), and minimum viable products (MVP). This gap results in research that is often disconnected from actual production needs, leaving businesses unable to adopt academic findings.
To address this, national strategic resolutions emphasize that citizens and businesses should be the center of innovation, with scientists acting as key factors and the State providing guidance. The goal is to improve mechanisms that encourage businesses to identify technological needs and invest in research, while universities and institutes focus on training and practical application to meet market demands.
