Vietnam sees falling food and fuel prices as supply eases

Domestic food and energy markets in Vietnam are experiencing a sharp easing of prices. Retail pork, chicken, fish and fruit have dropped 10‑30% as abundant harvests and a rebound in oil flows from the Hormuz Strait lower costs, while gasoline and LPG fell for a fourth consecutive week, with E10 near the 20,000 đ/litre threshold. Fertiliser and feed prices are also sliding, giving farmers and consumers relief after months of high costs.

At the same time, the traditional Tet Đoan Ngọ celebrations in Ho Chi Minh City show an oversupply of ritual foods but weaker consumer demand. Vendors report plentiful stocks of bánh ú, chè, fruit and duck, yet shoppers buy only small quantities. Prices of these items have risen modestly (5‑15 000 đ per item), but the market remains quieter than in previous years.
