Vietnam sees growth in tree nurseries and new reforestation efforts

In Ngoc Quan Village, Vietnam, tree nursery cultivation has become a highly profitable industry, transforming local families into wealthy farmers. Some households generate annual revenues of billions of VND. For example, Nguyen Ky Buoi manages a 3-hectare nursery producing approximately 5 million seedlings annually, including acacia and cinnamon, with revenues reaching 4-5 billion VND. The village as a whole sells between 40 and 50 million seedlings per year, totaling roughly 17 billion VND in revenue. This industry provides significant income and employment, with nursery profits per unit of land being up to 30 times higher than traditional rice farming.

Separately, a reforestation initiative has launched at Cu Lao Cham island. The “1 Billion Green - Each Green Tree, One Commitment” program, organized by the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve Management Board and Dat Phuong Group, recently planted 500 trees, including Calophyllum inophyllum and Barringtonia asiatica. This marks the beginning of a plan to plant at least 25,000 trees on the island between 2026 and 2030. The project focuses on habitat restoration, biodiversity conservation, and community involvement to build a sustainable green ecosystem.
