Vietnam shifts to proactive disaster risk management

Vietnam is shifting its approach to natural disaster prevention and control from passive response to proactive risk management. Following directives from General Secretary and President Tô Lâm, disaster prevention is being integrated into national development strategies, public investment planning, and business operations to ensure sustainable economic growth.

To support this, the Government issued Resolution No. 210/NQ-CP, outlining an action plan to address extreme weather, floods, and climate change through the end of 2026. The plan emphasizes that disaster response must be long-term and closely linked to production processes and supply chain management.

In the private sector, businesses are working to strengthen resilience against climate risks that threaten logistics and manufacturing. Companies are increasingly investing in multi-center warehousing, digitalizing transport schedules, and adopting green logistics to mitigate disruptions caused by extreme weather and to meet environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
