Vietnam shrimp exports reach $2.8 billion amid market shifts

Vietnam's shrimp exports reached nearly $2.8 billion in the first seven months of 2026, marking a 13.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth is driven by significant shifts in key international markets.

China has emerged as the largest market for Vietnamese shrimp, with exports to China and Hong Kong totaling over $980 million, a 39.6% increase. This surge has allowed China to overtake the United States as the primary destination for Vietnamese seafood. In contrast, shrimp exports to the U.S. fell by 11.4%, reaching approximately $357.5 million.

Other markets showed mixed results: Japan saw a 4% increase ($323.8 million), while South Korea experienced a slight decline of 1.6% ($197.3 million). Australia recorded a 16.5% rise ($155.1 million).

Broadly, Vietnam's total import-export turnover reached over $712 billion through mid-August. Experts suggest that to maintain growth, domestic enterprises must improve product standards to meet strict requirements regarding quality, traceability, and environmental sustainability, particularly for the U.S. and EU markets.
