Vietnam simplifies agricultural growing area code issuance
Following Government Resolution 36, Vietnam is implementing a new mechanism for managing growing area codes and packaging facility codes starting in August. The new system aims to simplify administrative procedures while significantly strengthening post-inspection processes to ensure transparency and prevent fraud in agricultural exports.
Under this mechanism, commune-level authorities are directly responsible for issuing, reissuing, withdrawing, suspending, or restoring codes, and must allocate the necessary personnel and funding. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is currently dispatching working groups to Gia Lai, Lam Dong, and Dak Lak to provide guidance on implementing these changes via both field operations and digital platforms.
Nguyen Quoc Manh, Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, stated that the end-to-end system is designed to transparently track the movement of codes from the commune level to provinces, ministries, and eventually to importing countries for traceability. Furthermore, the new codes will be linked to specific land identifiers as regulated by Land Law, which is intended to prevent the illegal trading or falsification of codes.
