Vietnam smartphone users store high levels of sensitive personal data

A recent cybersecurity survey by Kaspersky across 18 Asia-Pacific countries reveals that smartphones are increasingly replacing desktops and laptops as the primary means of internet access. In Vietnam, 71 percent of respondents identified smartphones as their main connection tool.

As these devices become indispensable, they are functioning as ‘digital safes’ for sensitive information. In Vietnam, 57 percent of users store identity documents such as passports, insurance information, and citizen ID cards on their phones, which is significantly higher than the regional average of 49 percent. Additionally, 40 percent of Vietnamese users store login passwords on their devices, exceeding the regional average of 34 percent.

Smartphones are also serving as mobile offices and financial hubs. Approximately 52 percent of Vietnamese respondents store work emails and messages, while 36 percent keep bank account information on their devices. The survey also noted a trend in artificial intelligence usage, with 20 percent of Vietnamese users retaining their entire chat history with AI assistants on their smartphones.
