Vietnam Social Security clarifies compulsory and voluntary insurance rules
Vietnam Social Security has provided detailed clarifications regarding the distinctions between compulsory and voluntary social insurance under the 2024 Social Insurance Law.
Compulsory social insurance applies to specific employees and employers as defined by law. It covers benefits including sickness, maternity, retirement, death, and occupational accidents or diseases. The contribution basis for state-regulated salary regimes includes monthly salaries based on position, title, rank, and various allowances.
In contrast, voluntary social insurance is available to Vietnamese citizens aged 15 and older who are not subject to compulsory insurance and are not currently receiving a pension or other monthly social insurance benefits. The benefits for voluntary participants include maternity, retirement, death, and occupational accident insurance.
