Vietnam Social Security implements digital updates and debt recovery
Vietnam Social Security (BHXH) is implementing several major updates regarding social insurance and pension management. A significant digital shift is underway as the agency begins using personal identification numbers or Citizen Identity Card (CCCD) numbers instead of traditional social insurance codes. Citizens are encouraged to verify their information on the VssID application to ensure data accuracy during this automated synchronization with the national population database.
For the October 2026 pension and social allowance cycle, BHXH has announced a new milestone: the integration of social security accounts via the VNeID electronic identification application. This allows beneficiaries to receive payments through a more secure and modern infrastructure linked to existing bank accounts or e-wallets.
In Ho Chi Minh City, authorities have taken decisive action against insurance arrears. Working with the People's Procuracy, the city's social security agency engaged with 6,755 defaulting units, successfully recovering over 442 billion VND, representing approximately 20.45% of the total outstanding debt.
Concurrently, law enforcement in Quang Ninh has issued warnings regarding sophisticated scams targeting social insurance beneficiaries. Fraudsters are reportedly impersonating officials to trick citizens into installing malicious apps via Zalo or Telegram to steal banking credentials and funds.
