Vietnam Social Security to replace insurance codes with ID numbers

Vietnam Social Security has announced a transition to using personal identification numbers or citizen identity cards to replace traditional social insurance codes across its professional software systems. The transition is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026, following a data standardization phase starting August 15, 2026.

The change will affect various systems, including collection and card management, policy review, electronic social insurance transactions, the VssID application, and health insurance inspection systems. Officials emphasized that this is a change in identification methods only and will not alter participation history, contribution-benefit data, or health insurance rights and benefits.

While the social security agency will perform the conversion automatically on its systems, citizens are encouraged to verify their personal information—such as name, date of birth, and ID number—via the VssID app or the official Vietnam Social Security portal. If discrepancies are found, individuals should contact their employers or the social security agency for adjustments. Additionally, authorities warned citizens to remain vigilant against scams where fraudsters impersonate officials to solicit OTP codes, passwords, or bank details.
