Vietnam specialist high schools admit low‑scoring students

Admission lists for the 2026‑2027 intake show that candidates scoring as low as 2.25 points in history or geography were admitted to Ben Tre Specialized High School in Vĩnh Long province. Officials said the low scores occurred because the number of applicants for the specialist classes was small, so schools fill seats by ranking from the highest score down, and any candidate not barred by score limits can be admitted.

A similar pattern was reported at Lương Văn Chánh Specialized High School in Đắk Lắk province, where the cutoff for the history specialist class was 15 points (a weighted total equivalent to about three points per subject). The school’s principal, Huỳnh Tấn Châu, confirmed that students with only 2‑3 points in the specialist subjects appeared on the admitted list.

Both provincial education departments verified the information, noting that the admissions process draws from the pool of applicants and that low‑scoring students are admitted when overall applicant numbers are insufficient to meet the planned enrollment targets.
