Vietnam State Bank approves Vietbank capital increase amid sharp USD rate hike
The State Bank of Vietnam approved an increase in Vietbank's charter capital of up to about 4.779 trillion VND, raising the bank's total capital to roughly 15.548 trillion VND. The boost will be financed through retained earnings, a supplemental reserve fund, a public share offering and an employee share‑ownership program, aimed at strengthening the bank’s financial base, supporting technology investment, risk management and future growth.
At the same time, the State Bank raised the central exchange rate by 2 VND to 25,145 VND per US dollar. Commercial banks responded with record‑high USD selling prices: Vietcombank offered USD at 26,404 VND, ACB and Vietinbank similar rates, while buying rates hovered around 26,100‑26,150 VND. The move reflects broader market dynamics, with the USD index slipping slightly and other currencies showing mixed movements.
