Vietnam strengthens agricultural export controls and processing

Vietnam is implementing strategic measures to bolster its agricultural export sector, focusing on high-value commodities and strict quality control. In An Giang province, authorities are targeting an export turnover of over $2.6 billion by the end of 2026. Key initiatives include developing high-quality raw material zones, investing in deep processing for rice, seafood, and agricultural products, and enhancing logistics and digital transformation in production management.

Nationally, the government is addressing the rapid expansion of durian production, which reached approximately $3.86 billion in export value in 2025. To manage risks associated with this growth, officials are mandating the reorganization of raw material areas based on environmental suitability and prohibiting spontaneous expansion in unsuitable regions.

Strict oversight is being applied to export codes and food safety. Authorities have stated they will refuse export licenses for durians from areas flagged for cadmium contamination. Efforts are also underway to streamline the issuance of growing area and packaging facility codes, improve traceability through national databases, and enhance cooperation with Chinese authorities to expedite inspection and recognition processes.
