Vietnam deepens bilateral ties with Thailand and Cambodia in June diplomatic visits

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng met Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on 8 June, agreeing to accelerate the “Three‑Connections” strategy. The two leaders pledged to develop road and coastal‑waterway routes linking the two countries and the Mekong sub‑region, cut trade barriers, and target a bilateral trade volume of US$25 billion, with a long‑term aim of US$50 billion. They also committed to stronger defence cooperation, joint patrols at sea, and collaboration in areas such as agriculture, AI, digital and green economies.

The following day, 9 June, Vietnam’s President and Party General Secretary Tô Lâm received Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. The meeting emphasized deepening political trust, expanding infrastructure and tourism links, and boosting trade and investment across Vietnam‑Cambodia‑Laos. Both sides highlighted the importance of party‑to‑party relations, security cooperation, and the implementation of agreements reached in earlier high‑level talks among the three nations. The visits underscore Vietnam’s effort to solidify regional partnerships within ASEAN.

Overall, the two high‑level talks aim to enhance connectivity, increase commerce, and reinforce security collaboration between Vietnam and its neighboring partners.
