Vietnam studies free temporary use of two northern expressways
Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc has directed authorities to study proposals for the temporary free operation of the Huu Nghi - Chi Lang and Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway projects during the 2027 Lunar New Year. These national key projects are vital for connecting northern border provinces with Hanoi and facilitating international trade and security.
To accelerate progress, the Deputy Prime Minister requested that Lang Son and Cao Bang provinces complete all land clearance, including technical infrastructure and resettlement areas, by October 2026. Additionally, local authorities must increase the capacity of high-quality stone mines to ensure material supply during peak construction periods.
Investors and contractors have been urged to implement detailed schedules for each package and maximize resources using a “3-shift, 4-crew” work model. However, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that speed must not compromise construction quality or the integration of intelligent transport systems (ITS), rest stops, and toll stations.
