Vietnam targets 20% self-sufficiency in pharmaceutical raw materials by 2030
Vietnam has launched a program to develop its pharmaceutical industry through 2030, with a long-term vision extending to 2045. Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra signed Decision No. 1954/QD-TTg to approve this initiative, which aims to enhance domestic production capacity and reduce reliance on imported raw materials.
A primary goal of the program is for Vietnam to meet approximately 20% of its domestic demand for pharmaceutical raw materials by 2030. The strategy prioritizes the production of active ingredients, starting materials, intermediate chemicals, and excipients to build industrial capacity and supply chain autonomy.
Additional objectives include: - Ensuring 100% of active ingredient and excipient production facilities meet required standards by 2030. - Establishing at least two advanced pharmaceutical research and development centers that meet international standards. - Implementing digital solutions in at least 50% of production facilities for management, quality control, and traceability. - Mastering and transferring advanced technologies to develop domestic production capabilities for essential and strategic raw materials.
