Vietnam targets 8-10 million commodity derivative contracts by 2030

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved a scheme to develop Vietnam's commodity derivatives market for the 2026-2030 period, with a long-term vision toward 2045. The plan aims to reach 8 to 10 million commodity derivative contracts per year by 2030.

The initiative focuses on integrating the derivatives market with physical commodity markets to support production, business, import-export activities, and price risk management for enterprises. Key priorities include perfecting the legal framework, improving trading infrastructure, and developing basic products.

To ensure market stability and transparency, the government intends to modernize trading, clearing, and settlement systems. The plan also emphasizes the application of digital technology and big data for market management and supervision, while establishing training mechanisms to develop a qualified workforce.
