Vietnam targets growth in medical tourism and aesthetic surgery market
Vietnam is positioned to develop a high-value medical tourism sector by integrating aesthetic services, healthcare, and luxury resort infrastructure. The intersection of wellness and travel offers a new growth direction as international tourists increasingly seek journeys that combine sightseeing with physical rejuvenation.
According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam welcomed nearly 21.2 million international visitors in 2025, representing a 20.4% increase from 2024. In a related market, IMARC Group estimates the plastic surgery market in Vietnam reached $355.6 million in 2024 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 8.64%, potentially reaching $749.7 million by 2033.
While still in the formative stages compared to established markets like South Korea or Thailand, Vietnam holds a competitive advantage in cost-effectiveness. This includes not only medical service fees but also lower costs for flights, accommodation, and dining. Some medical facilities, such as Vinmec, have already begun developing dedicated platforms for medical tourism to cater to international patients.
