Vietnam Ministry of Health proposes 8 medical tourism hubs

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has submitted a draft proposal to the Prime Minister to develop a medical tourism scheme for the 2026–2030 period. The plan aims to establish a professional, high-quality, and regionally competitive medical tourism ecosystem to attract international patients and reduce the number of Vietnamese citizens seeking treatment abroad.

Eight provinces and cities have been proposed as key medical tourism destinations: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Hue, Khanh Hoa, and An Giang (specifically focusing on Phu Quoc). The selection is based on existing medical capacity, infrastructure, transportation, and tourism resources.

Key objectives include having at least 20 hospitals achieve international quality certification by 2030, including a minimum of five public hospitals. Targeted services include health screenings, dentistry, reproductive support, specialized treatments, traditional medicine, rehabilitation, and elderly care. To support this, the Ministry proposes researching improved visa and residency policies for international patients and their caregivers, as well as ensuring transparent, multilingual service information.
