Vietnam targets Southeast Asian tourism leadership by 2030
Vietnam is implementing a comprehensive strategic plan to transform its tourism sector into a leading economic pillar by 2030. Under the framework of Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW, the government aims to position the country among Southeast Asia's tourism leaders by focusing on high-value segments, including wellness tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions).
Key targets for 2030 include attracting 45 to 50 million international visitors and 160 million domestic tourists, with total tourism revenue projected to reach $80 billion to $90 billion. This growth is expected to contribute 10% to 12% to the national GDP. To achieve this, the government plans to develop major growth poles in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, while establishing Phu Quoc as a significant new hub.
The strategy involves seven key solution groups: improving legal frameworks, developing tourism spaces and investment, product diversification, market expansion, digital transformation, human resource development, and environmental protection. Additionally, there is a specific focus on leveraging Vietnam's natural resources, such as its diverse mineral springs and medicinal plant ecosystems, to build a competitive wellness tourism industry.
