Vietnam's tourism sector has seen significant growth in the first eight months of 2026, welcoming approximately 15.91 million international visitors. This figure represents a 14.4 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025 and accounts for over 63 percent of the nation's annual target of 25 million arrivals.

Key source markets include China, with 3.54 million visitors, and South Korea, with 2.76 million. Notably, the Russian market has seen a dramatic surge, ranking as the third-largest source market with over 1 million arrivals. Long-haul markets also showed strong performance, particularly Europe, which saw a 53.4 percent year-on-year increase.

To sustain this momentum, the Politburo has introduced Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW, presented by Deputy Prime Minister Pham Thi Thanh Tra. The resolution aims to transform tourism into a spearhead economic sector, targeting a direct GDP contribution of 10-12 percent and 45-50 million international visitors by 2030. The strategy emphasizes shifting from quantity to quality, focusing on sustainable, smart, and green tourism, while developing key growth poles such as Phu Quoc.
