Vietnam tax authorities to adopt new electronic ID codes in 2026
The General Department of Taxation has announced the implementation of new electronic identification codes for 34 provincial/city tax departments and 350 local tax offices, effective October 1, 2026.
This initiative follows Decision No. 2507/QD-BTC issued by the Minister of Finance on July 17, 2025. The update aims to facilitate data connection and sharing between the Ministry of Finance and various ministries, sectors, and local authorities, specifically to support the sending and receiving of electronic documents via the national document exchange system.
The new organizational structure, which aligns with the two-level local government model, includes Ho Chi Minh City having the highest number of local tax offices at 29, followed by Hanoi with 25. Conversely, Cao Bang and Lai Chau provinces have the fewest, with four local offices each.
