Vietnam Tax Authority Urges Citizens to Review eTax Mobile Data Amid Enforcement Crackdown
The General Department of Taxation has issued a notice urging all taxpayers to check their personal income information for the period 2021‑2025 on the eTax Mobile app. The goal is to prevent false income declarations that could trigger incorrect tax liabilities.
Travelers are cautioned that outstanding tax debts can lead to departure bans. Individuals with unpaid tax of 50 million VND or more, overdue by more than 120 days, and legal representatives of companies with unpaid tax of 500 million VND or more face possible travel restrictions.
In 2025, tax audits of 30 large real‑estate firms resulted in proposals to levy over 565.6 billion VND, an average of 21.7 billion VND per audit, far above the typical 1.2 billion VND figure for other enterprises.
Circular 89/2026, issued on 30 June, introduces electronic tax inspections, allowing the entire audit process—from document submission to final decision—to be conducted digitally. The measure is intended to increase transparency, reduce physical contact, and streamline compliance for taxpayers.
