Vietnam taxi industry sees 70.9% electrification rate
Vietnam is experiencing a rapid shift toward electric vehicles within its taxi industry. According to data released at a consultation conference organized by the Ministry of Construction on September 17, there are currently 61,171 electric taxis operating in the country out of a total of 86,274 taxis. This represents an electrification rate of 70.9%.
This trend significantly outpaces the broader national electrification rate. As of June 2026, electric vehicles accounted for approximately 6.1% of the more than 6.3 million reported vehicles in Vietnam. The high adoption rate in the taxi sector is driven by the operational nature of the business, where vehicles run long distances daily, making fuel and maintenance costs critical to profitability. This transition is being supported by an electric vehicle ecosystem driven by enterprises associated with billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong.
