Vietnam to adopt Apostille Convention for document simplification
Vietnam will officially implement the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, effective September 11, 2026. This move aims to simplify the legalization of public documents between Vietnam and 125 member nations.
Under the new mechanism, users will only need to obtain a single Apostille certification in the issuing country rather than undergoing the multi-step consular legalization process previously required. This change is expected to benefit approximately 700,000 document exchanges annually, including those for students, workers, and businesses.
The Apostille certification confirms the authenticity of the signature, title, or capacity of the signer and the seal on the document, though it does not verify the document's actual content.
