Vietnam to reduce public educational institutions by 46.7%
Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training has announced a significant reorganization of its public education system across 34 provinces. The plan aims to reduce the total number of public educational institutions from 37,138 to 19,785, representing a decrease of 17,353 entities or approximately 46.7%.
The reorganization is scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2026-2027 school year. Various provinces will see different levels of reduction based on local geography, population, and network characteristics. Dong Thap is projected to undergo the most significant reduction at 65.1%, while Ho Chi Minh City is expected to see the lowest reduction rate at approximately 32.18%.
Several provinces, including Quang Ninh and Son La, are expected to complete their restructuring by early August 2026, while others are scheduled to finalize their transitions throughout the remainder of the month to ensure stability for the upcoming academic year.
