Vietnam to enforce child car seat safety standards from July 2026

From 1 July 2026, Vietnam’s road safety law will require children under 10 years old or under 1.35 metres in height to be secured with appropriate safety devices when travelling in cars. The regulations specify rear‑facing seats for infants under 2 years, forward‑facing seats for children 2‑5 years, and booster seats for those 5‑10 years, with detailed belt positioning requirements.

The law also mandates that any child‑car‑seat sold in Vietnam must be certified and listed as compliant with the national technical standard QCVN 123:2024/BGTVT, which takes effect on 1 January 2026. Certification is issued by designated agencies appointed by the Vietnam Register (Cục Đăng kiểm) and approved by provincial authorities. As of now, no organization has obtained the required certification, prompting concerns about product availability and compliance procedures.
