Vietnam trade turnover hits record 770.14 billion USD in 8 months
Vietnam's total import-export turnover reached a record 770.14 billion USD during the first eight months of 2026, marking a 28.7% increase compared to the same period last year. Export turnover rose by 22.4% to 374.84 billion USD, while import turnover increased by 35.3% to 395.3 billion USD. This surge resulted in a trade deficit of 20.46 billion USD.
Key export sectors include processed industrial goods, which accounted for 90.2% of total exports at 337.99 billion USD. Electronics, computers, and components led the way with 101.06 billion USD. Other major categories include machinery and equipment, telephones, textiles, and footwear. The United States remains the largest export market, contributing 122 billion USD, while China is the primary import market, with a turnover of 161.9 billion USD.
Foreign direct investment (FDI) also showed significant growth, with registered capital reaching approximately 40.63 billion USD, a 55.4% increase year-on-year. Singapore led new FDI projects with 7.62 billion USD, representing 35.1% of new registered capital.
