Vietnam to implement new food traceability regulations

Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued Circular No. 63, establishing new regulations for a food database and traceability requirements. The circular is set to take effect on November 15, 2026.

Under the new rules, food production and business establishments must establish and maintain complete records and documentation related to product traceability. These records must be readily available for extraction upon request by competent state authorities. For products with an expiration date, documentation must be stored for at least 12 months after the product expires.

The centralized database will manage various data groups, including information on production facilities, food products, food safety conditions, product declarations, and inspection results. It will also track administrative violations, food recalls, and technical standards to support state management of the food industry, safety, and quality.
